Smoked Pumpkin Pie Recipe

Ingredients

1 unbaked 9-inch deep-dish pie shell

1 (15-ounce) can of pumpkin puree

3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves

Instructions

  1. Preheat your smoker to 225 degrees F.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the pumpkin puree with brown sugar, cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg; set aside.
  3. In another bowl whisk together eggs until frothy (about 2 minutes), add salt and evaporated milk then whisk again until combined well (about 1 minute). Lastly add melted butter and vanilla extract before whisking one last time until well combined (about 1 minute). Pour this mixture into the pumpkin mixture and stir until well combined–it should be thick like cake batter or cookie dough at this point!
  4. Pour batter into pie shell then place in smoker for 1 1/4 hours at 225 degrees F until done baking you’ll know when it’s ready because when you insert a knife into center it will come out clean! Let cool before serving.

Tips & Tricks

  • Use a store-bought or homemade pie crust for the recipe.
  • If you’re using a store-bought crust: blind bake it before adding the filling. To blind bake the crust, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and line the crust with parchment paper and fill with pie weights or dried beans. Bake for 10 minutes and then remove the weights and parchment paper; bake for an additional 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  • For an extra smoky flavor, add a few drops of liquid smoke to your filling before baking.

Serving Suggestions

Serve with a scoop of ice cream. Top with whipped cream or drizzle with caramel sauce. Serve with a side of roasted vegetables such as Brussels sprouts, carrots, or squash.

Add a sprinkle of chopped nuts for a crunchy topping. Enjoy with a cup of hot apple cider or mulled wine!

Storage & Reheating

Smoked pumpkin pie is best stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.

To reheat, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and place the pie on a baking sheet. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until heated through.
